Travel from Wellington

Travel by train is the best option to get from Wellington to Masterton but
unfortunatly there are only two trains on Sundays.
One leaving at 9.55am arriving at 11.30am and the other leaves at 6.55pm arriving at 8.30pm.
(click here) for Train time table. It is the Wairarapa Line and your stop will be Masterton, not Solway.
Registrations are from 3pm but this doesn't mean you can't arrive before then.
The committee will be at the Hotel from early morning to put up banners and set things up.
If you arrive on the later train at 8.30pm unfortunately you will miss the official welcome and evenings entertainment.
Let us know if this later train is your only option and we may be able to put people in touch with each other who have a wait in Wellington.
If you are traveling through Wellington by car and could give someone a lift let us know.

Just another little by the by is Daylight Saving starts on that Sunday morning so you will need to make sure you change your clocks and if you are catching public transport make sure you have the time correct.

Felters welcome to Newsletter No 2

Heres some more information about what's in store at Convergence.

We now have 172 registrations. Our cut off number is 180.

Organization is well under way with the committee meeting every month and lots of emails in-between.
In April we meet at our venue Solway Park in Masterton and thoroughly inspected everything. We were very impressed and were even given the use of the boardroom to have our meeting.
We all felt very important sitting around the big board table!

Ø Final payment will be due in July and Raewyn Penrose will be sending out invoices.
You will be asked for more information such as your expected time of arrival.
If you who have already made full or final payment, you will receive a form to fill out with the extra details needed.

Ø Registration is after 3pm on Sunday 27th and departure is Friday 2nd October by 10am.

Ø Display of Registrants Work
We all love to see each other’s work so we are asking you to bring an item that could be pinned or hung on a wall. You can offer it for sale if you like.

Ø Fashion Parade
A fashion parade of felted garments will be held one evening and we’d like you to bring one special garment that you would like to show/model yourself. There will be people who may model for you.
Sandra Thompson will be the organiser.
With this newsletter we are including the Display and Fashion Parade Forms. These are for you to hand in with your items upon your arrival.

Ø 5-Minute Forums
This is an opportunity to promote yourself and your work.
If you have something to sell, are a tutor, have a great tip or technique that you’d like to share, then this is the opportunity to get up and have 5 minutes to show and tell us all at an arranged time. It will be included in the programme when it has been finalised,
If you are just too shy to do this then we will have someone who will do it on your behalf.

Ø Banners
It has been the tradition to have raffles at each convergence to raise money to give to the next group as a start for their event.
From the Victorian Felters, who had organised the last Convergence at Beechworth, we received over $1,000. This was fantastic for us, as we had nothing in to begin with and where able to begin planning.
This year instead of raffles we are asking you to each donate a small felted banner about 30cm x 20cm. These will all be displayed and sold at one price around $10- $20 (yet to be finalised).
You can be as creative as you like with your banners. A few ideas and photos of samples are posted on the Blog.

Ø Theme Days
Day 1: Head Attire
Day 2: Neck Attire
Day3: Hip Attire
Day 4: Outrageous Attire
All fabulously felted of course. (no pressure if not!)

Ø Day Registrants
Wednesday’s programme will be different from the other days in that there will be no demonstrations in the afternoon to allow for the Bazaar to take place. Also a large number of people will be dining very early and leaving on buses to go into Wellington for the WOW performance.
The next newsletter will have programme information in it if you are wondering what would be the best day to come.

Ø Felting Equipment
We will provide some felting equipment, as we know it is not something you can travel with easily.
More information about this will be in the next newsletter when we have finalised the programme and know exactly what will be needed.

Ø Traders
There will be traders on hand with wool and felt related products

Ø Bazaar
Wednesday is Bazaar Day where participants can sell their work (you will have already indicated on the registration form if you are interested in doing this. If you have not and would like to participate, please get in touch with Raewyn Penrose. rpo@ihug.co.nz

Ø WOW Buses
As advised on the registration form the buses to the WOW performance will be an extra cost payable on the day. It will be around NZ $18

Ø Demonstrations
We are very busy at present working on the Demonstrations programme.
We will have a lot more information on that very soon as we know you are all dying to know.

Ø Watch the Blog for any updates and please contact us if you need any more information.
